Toilet to Tap: This is our BEST idea?

Okay, so I don’t love camping.  I can still do it.  I still mustered up the nerve to take my three boys out there, with a tent (alright, and my iPhone), and make it through the night.  There are plenty of things I don’t necessarily enjoy in life, but I can certainly endure.

Toilet to tap isn’t one of them

There’s nowhere in my world where these two photos belong together…

.

If you have no idea what I’m referring to, read this article in the NY Times.  Or this one, from last fall.  The basic gist is that Orange County, CA has decided to take the water that gets flushed down the toilet, clean it up, and serve it from your tap.

Yep, the tap in your kitchen.  You’re catching on now.

I know, I know.  The water supply is limited, the toilet water is totally purified, it’s probably even cleaner than what I’m drinking now, right?  I’m telling you, it doesn’t matter; I don’t give a rip how “clean” that water is, I wouldn’t put it to my lips if you paid me.

The science behind it, I understand.  The environment—I’m all for it.  But seriously, if I lived in Orange County,  I would buy stock in bottled water because despite my hesitancy to fill another landfill with plastic bottles, I would personally buy enough to do so if my other choice was water that used to have the old number one and number two in it.

Even for a mother of three boys, that is just too gross.

Cheers!
